I'm 99.999% sure it's a weed that I'll have to get rid of, but I do know that clearing other parts of the garden gave a new lease of life to plants I reckon a previous owner had planted. My issue is I couldn't tell a plant from a worthless weed, really. (Truth be known I could post other images but this for now.)

I tried the Google reverse image search, but as usual it seemed very USA oriented and said it was an eastern USA American Red Gum which, since I'm not in the USA, I've my doubts about that.

Cheers.

If that is true then I'll be pleased. Have an 'open' basket at a gardening website with sunflower seeds in it. Wish it hadn't opted to be a few inches from my rose though.
Yep, I'd say sunflower.
just hope it doesn't say "feed me Seymour " lol x

Now you mention it ...
Looks like a sunflower to me.
Give Bill or Ben a bell. They might confirm an absent friend.
It certainly looks like a sunflower. The image is very similar to that which I have found on the Internet and is a photograph of a young sunflower plant.

Thanks all.
Arent you glad you didn't yank it out by its baby roots?
The Sunflower deserves a stay of execution !

Dunno about that. If it wanted to thrive, why'd it choose to be next to the ivy I'm trying to get rid of ?
Your BA may be able to answer that ;) It's funny what can come from a poo situation.

Hmmm... not looking particularly well today. It didn't really bloom fully; yellow petals still bunched together.

Should I expect it to look really sickly in November, or is the weedkiller that I'm putting on nearby ivy, getting to it ?
