After all these years, I've been using tin foil wrong. According to Tom Kerridge it should be shiny side down!!!! Oh dear I've always put the shiny side up. What do you think?

Just copied my Mum, shiny side down..
Large man in blue t-shirt says 'look at me'.
large man in blue t shirt needs to get a life !! lol x
When I unroll it, it's in my hand, neither side up nor down. I doubt it matters but if there was an iota of difference I'd suspect a shiny surface reflected better than a dull one so shiny side inwards maybe ?
Pity he didn't call it by it's correct name....there's no "tin" in it, it's made of 100% aluminium!
So, if you use it to line a grill pan, which way up should it be?
Tilly, if the shiny side is more reflective then when used as a lining the shiny side should be up.
Thank you, Danny. I'll just carry on as I am then. :-)
I don't think it will make a lot of difference but for baking purposes shiny side down might just give you the edge.
That's what I do anyway.
Under a grill, shiny side up, over a roast shiny side down. We were taught this in Home Economics.
Foiled again!
Just thought I'd add, the some shop bought pies such as pukka use foil trays which are black on the outside, for better heat transference.
Probably some other manufacturers too, if I remember right.
//It doesn't, just force of habit. When you unroll it, it's shiny side down, why turn it over?//

Surely it depends on which way round , you hold the box ?
