My significant other has passed her test, and I said I would get a car for her. She wants a Ford Ka. I have seen one described with slight door & sill damage (viewing the car tomorrow).
My question, how damaged does the sill have to be to fail an MOT (if at all). Is the sill a fully load bearing structure. I'm a bit dense with these things.
I have looked at the MOT testers manual, but just wanted your advice.
Depends on the type of damage and where it is. eg...within 30 cm of a suspension or seatbelt mount.
But any damage along the sill which is a corrosion hole or a sharp edge will probably fail an mot.
Small dents inside the 30cm area and even large dents outside the area, you will prbably get away with
if the rust is in a 30 cm area of suspension or seat belts mounts which usually these days covers most of the sill if u think about it then its a fail not usually that dear to get repaired prob about 150 for a not bad size of corrosion but it does depend if the rust spreads wen the garage go to clean the area up for a plate to be welded up! but if it says door/sill damage does it mean corrosion or accident damaged just keep that in mind but prob corrosion
