Das Boot 2

Last night, i finished all the episodes of Das Boot and the end would suggest strongly another series.
What did I think of it ? SUPERB and certainly worth a watch, as good if not better than the original although both served different audiences.
Can't wait for Series 2....if there is one ;-)

Watched it all yesterday and today. It was brilliant.

Hope there is a 2nd series.

I am watching the last two tonight. I disagree. The original series (mini TV) was far superior. I thought the original was a factual documentary and edge of the seat stuff. I almost felt I was in the boat and glad I don't suffer from claustrophobia.
This new series is just Girl's Own stuff with tittilation,lesbianism, intrigue,babies and amours de coer.
Stuck on the sea bed ,as usual,and tension when crew work out how to surface? We saw all that in the last episode.
It no longer becomes edge of your seat tension. It just becomes 'same old predictable' Oh well that's my opinion. I still have the original mini series plus the film and the vinyl LP soundtrack. :-)

I might be the only ABer (I stand to be challenged) who actually knew a German U-Boat commander, (my daughter in law's father). He saw the original 'Das Boot' and thought it rubbish.

He (r.i.p.) said that any friction between individuals on a submarine could not be tolerated for one second and any disagreements HAD to be sorted immediately.

I think that must apply universally on submarines.

I accept what you and your daughter in law's father are saying. This was demonstrated in the first series when Johanne (P/O Engine Room Articifer) threw a wobbly when submerged and tried to exit the boat.
The Kapitan ran to his cabin and fetched his Luger with which he threatened Johanne with a bullet if he didn't return to his post. The dereliction was dealt with very swiftly imo and I have no doubt that similar occurences may have occurred in real life on U-Boats and HM Submarine Service Boats. A similar case of funk was shown in a British film about a RN boat during the war. Title of film escapes me.

retro; You have excellent recall, it is so long since I saw it, that I don't remember much of the the storyline, I just remember what Helmut told me.
