Fatty Liver And Caffeine.
12 Answers
I recently started drinking decaffeinated coffee, believing it to be better for my health, but I have fatty liver disease and I recently found a website that said caffeine can help to repair a fatty liver.
I wonder if I should switch back to caffeinated coffee - any advice or thoughts would be gratefully accepted - thanks.

Is it possible to repair a fatty liver by diet? I am trying to cut down on my fat intake, but I do remember the doctor telling me that fatty liver is not necessarily caused by excess fat in the diet.
In any case, I am overweight so losing weight would be good for me, and would like to try anything I can to have a healthy liver.
It can't be alcohol-related fatty liver as I don't drink alcohol.
Sqad, would you be so kind as to look at some test results for me, if I list them here? There are a few showing 'Abnormal' - I know it's not always a good idea to look at one's test results as it can worry you unnecessarily, but I would welcome your (or anyone else's thoughts on the results). Thank you very much.

I was diagnosed with Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and losing weight put it back to normal, just a sensible diet and upped my exercise levels by walking more. I didn't avoid any particular food type but ate more veg and fruit and less sugary, fatty stuff. Good info here:

Sorry... I didn't answer that question.
No NAFLD is almost never reversible, that is one cannot get rid of the fat, but with the advice given by H.C and the link, the disease or fatty infiltration can be halted.
On the plus side, fatty liver disease rarely progresses to cirrhosis....if ever.

Here are some results, not all are related to my fatty liver.
Serum ALT level: test result 48iu/L Normal range 5-45
Monocyte count: 1.03 10*9L Normal range 02-08
Plasma glucose level: 6.6mmol/L Normal range 3.6-6.0
Serum oestradiol level: 88pmol/L Normal range 150-1000pmol/L
Serum FSH level: 58iu/L Normal range 0.5iu/L
Serum LH level: 31iu/L Normal range 2-9iu/L
Rheumatoid factor: 15iu/mL Normal range 0.15iu/mL
All showing 'Abnormal' on my test results except for Rheumatiod factor.
I am a lady in my 60's, overweight, take tablets for high blood pressure and cholesterol.

Your liver is certainly not too bad.......in fact, I would say almost normal on the test results that you have given.
The only test relevant to your liver is serum ALT which is 48 and that result in my opinion is within normal limits.
The other tests do not relate to your liver.
Unless you have had a liver biopsy and or ultrasound scan I would certainly hesitate in making a diagnosis of NAFLD.
That is my opinion, for what it is worth.
