49a I haven't checked but I think Governess + Sinnerman might be racehorses, which would make sense of the answer.

Hankir - sinnerman and governess are also nicknames of 2 celebs in one of our famous Tv quiz programmes "The Chase"... hence the answer to go in at 49a

Yes, the TV chasers are a lot more famous than the horsey ones (I should have checked their 'form' - Sinnerman had one outing and finished nowhere - hardly a champion!).
