A temporary home for my dog...
10 Answers
Due to me and my partner recently splitting (and neither of us being able to keep our dog where we are each now living), I need to find a 'temporary' home for him... ideally I'm after someone who could keep him at thier home and walk/stroke/play with him... i'd pay for all food/insurance etc. and would also walk/run him too. I cannot say at the moment exactly how long it would be for as both my partner and I are currently looking for our own, more stable places to live. Neither of us want to lose him completely. Do such places/people exist? I'm in the Reading, Berkshire area... the dog is a male chocolate labrador; 5 years old; brought up with children; lovely, friendly nature... and of course fully house trained!! I know kennels are another option but ideally we'd like him to be in a more friendly, homely environment. Having a 'dog sitter' coming round to look after him here is not an option at the moment. Any ideas? Thanks

I am sure there are people around you who maybe cannot take on a dog because they cannot afford to keep one or feel maybe they are too old to commit to a dog for life, or just cannot take on a commitment for the full 10 years etc.
One thing I would make sure of is that they understand it is only until you find somewhere and that it is temporary.
I don't know how you would stand legally if they refused to give you the dog back at the end of it all? Or what would happen if the dog became ill and they decided to have it put to sleep? Be careful who you trust.

Hi zaskar, my sister and her 3 boys live in Basingstoke and are looking at getting a dog of their own. Now it would be a good idea for them to foster one and the oppurtunity has never risen before. She would be available to have him from 19th of August if that is any help. Her children are 13, 10 and 7 and have been bought up with animals, I have two dogs and they all get along great. Maybe think about it and if the idea appeals to you maybe meet locally Hook or somewhere , where you can discuss more.
Have a look around and advertise on the internet wherever you can.. I know of this site

people post similar messages under the homes wanted section quite often.
Just make sure you do a good home check and maybe even get a reference from their vet (if they already have animals). After all you don't want somebody to sell your dog on or run off with him.
Good luck and I hope everything works out well for you.
And just to Dave2222, this dog is 5 yrs old not a puppy, in that time circumstances change and unforseen events happen which means that people have to try and make arrangements for their pets. At least zaskar is trying to find a nice place for the dog to stay until they can get him back... he is not being tied up and left somewhere or even just handed over for someone else to deal with! Zaskar is going to pay for all his needs still and even walk the dog!!!
Its not an ideal situation obviously but zaskar is doing what s/he can!
