Why Why Why?

So I was just sitting in a supermarket café having coffee, looking out on to the car park, why would someone with a brand new Volkswagen 4x4 choose to try and park in the smallest of spots just because it was right near the entrance to the store ( not disabled ) and the driver was about early 30s jumped out and ran to the entrance, so no health problems I wouldn't think.
Two thirds of the car park was empty.
It took the driver at least four attempts to squeeze between the already parked car and a paved area with surrounded kerb stones, in the process of trying to park the driver mounted the kerb with both front and rear wheels several times of the one side of the car.
Now this WW had got top of the range alloy wheels god knows what state they were in by the time the parking was completed. Who in their right mind would struggle this way when 10/15 yards away the car park is empty, and all for the sake of that distance they prefer to risk damage to a lovely car, and I've seen this time and time again, ( really puzzled )
