It's the middle-aged who may have to think about it. Winters are dull and wet (though, in the north at least, the days aren't too short) and there's not so much to do: a smaller population means fewer shopping malls, fewer art galleries and so on. This is all part of the more relaxed lifestyle, but be sure you can cope with it. Also, are you sure you won't be overwhelmed by homesickness or missing granny? People are generally friendly and prices a bit lower than in the UK. I've known people who went to live there and loved it; I don't know anyone who's come back, but some certainly do.
Well when i was around 8 my best friend and her family moved to Newzealand (back in 1992) and i was gutted to say the least! They were only meant to be going for 2 years but liked it so much they decided to stay and they still live there now and we keep in contact regularly and there doesnt seem a chance ever of them wanting to move back... but contact with friends and family is pretty easy what with texts, emails and phones so good luck :)
Work with a physio who went to do temporary work in New Zealand, and met a bloke out there. They subequently got married, worked in the U.K. whilst she sorted out permanent residency over there. They then emigrated. Problem was, she loved the place and the lifestyle, but he hankered for the U.K.(he is from N.Z.).
Eventually (after about three years) they moved back to the U.K. She would still rather live out there, but he prefers it here. The children aren't too bothered, although they did love the easy access to beaches where they lived there.

You might find something of interest on here. BBC are doing something on Emigration so lots of posts on here. Good Luck.
