For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.As to what you do about the old wiring, I would say rip it out wherever you can but in some places this will obviously cause lots of mess (under plaster and floorboards etc.) If you leave it in it shouldn't be a problem once it's isolated and cut back (in the box) apart from in the future it might be difficult to tell whether a particular cable is live or not, as I think a 60's bungalow will have grey cable instead of black. (Hope you understand the last bit, what I mean is, in our house, the old, unused cable is black and perished, so when I come across some I know I can cut it out without fear. But I think the cable colour changed to grey around the 60s, so if you leave it in, in the future it may be difficult to tell if it was "new" or not.
