I cant get this one. Help please. I'm guessing 'Partridge' but don't know how it fits:

It's an "&lit" ("and literally so"), where the clue as a whole functions as the definition & wordplay

A friend of mine was composing the other day about the Everyman crossword. With clues like that I can see why.

The problem with these answers is that the particles are not in a logical order for parsing. In addition, how do they explain the word "host", which if it's a definition means it's not &lit, since an &lit doesn't require a definition. If it is indeed a definition, it should be at the beginning or the end of the clue.

It’s a rubbish clue. It so much &lit as & s h i t :-)

Host has a function in the clue: it's a double shell. Pride contains art, and the resulting "partride" in turn is the host of "g". The only definition in this clue is the &lit whole.
