Privacy Settings

Why has a blue pop-up with the words Privacy settings suddenly appeared in the bottom left hand of my screen, and what can be done to remove it?

It's been there for about a year.

Why would you want to remove it? Lots of sites now have a similar button, so that you can access, review and change, at any time, what the site stores about you, what cookies it stores on your computer, and the way in which it serves adverts to you.

It has been there for ages BUT no other site leaves it there all the time like this one does.
