I was lucky enough to be at Wimbledon yesterday to see the thrilling match between Fed and Djok. I was following the cricket scores while watching the tennis, and saw that there was a Super Over just as Djok won. I rushed up to my husband and his iPad where he was watching the cricket in the lounge and just caught the end.
Now all I hear about everywhere is the amazing match - cricket.

I feel I missed something special. If Fed had won it might have been worth it. But no, the man let me down ;(

Was it that special?

gness....LOL...anything for you.........
i was convinced that frilly knickers would be in the story somewhere

I had a feeling sqad's tale would be more about fishnets than tennis nets :-). I read it as clover went to Wimbledon, but husband stayed at home... xx
Cross posted lol
My father was a cricketer and when he got older he trained as an umpire. My summers as a young child were based around cricket matches, cricket teas and cricket socials. All day today I have been thinking of my Dad and wishing he could have witnessed yesterday with me. He has been dead for 38 years. I was born and bred in Wimbledon 5 minutes walk from the court's. I hate tennis and never went. Just musing ............
Watch either Djokovic or Federer win another Wimbledon, or watch England try to win their first Cricket World Cup? On telly, cricket was an easy decision for me, though I’m sure I would have gone to Wimbledon if I'd had a ticket.

Great day for England, though as Sqad says NZ were the better team on the day and will feel somewhat aggrieved. Somebody up there wanted us to win.

Asked whether the issue with the extra run worried him, England director of cricket Giles replied: ‘Not really. You could argue the last ball that [Trent] Boult bowled was a full toss on leg stump and if Stokes hadn’t just been looking for two he probably would’ve banged it out of the ground anyway.’ Only problem with that is Stokes wouldn’t have been at the receiving end had they been ruled not to have crossed when the ball was thrown.

My OH was watching tennis in the other room so I popped in during breaks to see how it was going. I think it is a bit sad the way Djokovic gets treated at Wimbledon, he is a great player and always gracious. I don't like to see his (or anyone's) errors cheered.

Thanks for the answers.
To clarify, we had tickets for Wimby, but didn’t know that England would be in the CWC final. When England were confirmed as finalists I wondered if I’d rather watch that or take my seat on Centre Court. If Nadal had beaten Fed in the semifinal I might have been more inclined to watch the cricket instead.

Husband took me to Wimby as I love Federer and am fairly hopeless at getting myself into and around London . He watched the cricket on his iPad in a lounge in the grounds. He was perfectly happy with that. Me less so, as I missed a great cricket match and Federer lost. Oh well :(
I actually find it unbelievable that a couple could have a pair of tickets for the Men's Final on Centre Court (with no change out of £400) and one of them sits in a lounge watching cricket. Cloverjo - please explain.

Husband likes tennis and loves cricket. We bought the Wimbledon tickets because it’s a great day out and I love tennis and Roger Federer.
Even if England hadn’t been playing in the cricket final, husband but probably still be inside somewhere as it can get very hot on Centre Court, someone’s head spoils the view, people keep talking etc. My husband is not a patient man!
On the day, he’d rather sit inside watching the game he loves on an iPad even though he’d paid for a ticket for a live game he has less interest in.
I cannot wait for the ticket applications to go online. Maybe I will be lucky, touch wood!!

Are they actually going to do that, sharonA?

I heard they wanted to keep ‘The Queue’ (ie camping for 3 days on a pavement or grubby field) going, as it’s such an British “institution”.

I hope you get lucky any way up.
Nope , really enjoyed the tennis :)

That’s great, bodeka.
Listening to the radio coming home from London this morning I thought I’d missed out on the second coming of Christ!

I’ve even heard mentioned that the cricketers should be knighted. How ridiculous is that?
CBEs, or whatever, like the Ashes winners of 2005 would be fine, but knighthoods for winning one tournament?!
Cloverjo - for your information re Wimbledon tickets. The Public Ballot is going online for applications for 2020 (rather than the current tedious system of sending sae for form and then sending form back via snail mail. This will not affect the time-honoured tradition of The Queue.
Yes, it was super special,a match that will never be eclipsed.
