Though it can hardly be called literature, I am trying to find a children's book from the 40s or 50s which described how flowers got their names. I remember illustrations of Daisies being put to bed (Day's Eye) and a gardener in a check shirt who was Sweet William (My all time favourite flower). It's the only one of my own books that I have never been able to find. May have only been thin card covers. Anyone any ideas?

Thanks for the suggestion. I think it was less formal than this. The cover, which was also printed I remember as predominantly blue (but I could be wrong)
Could it have been a Ladybird book?
