Although Ive kep mine well watered (straight into the soil) the heat has made the flowers discoloured - - can they be revived,or do I just let nature take it's course?

Hi Mags,
When you say "discoloured" do you mean that they have changed colour ?. It could be due to the different PH level in the soil.
You can buy products to turn the flowers from pink to blue, if you prefer

Mine are changing colour now due to them coming to the end of their flowering season. They have been in flower for about 10 weeks or more so worth every penny. Leave the heads on until you get new growth next spring. The old heads will protect your plant from frost during the winter plus feed the birds.

Mags once the colour has gone thats it Im afraid. I would cut them back.

OK ladybirder works for me with a covering of net curtain, but we dont get much frost, our garden is walled.

I never cut mine back until end of March, I agree with ladybirder here

I don't cut mine until Springtime either. Dead flower heads add a bit of interest during Wintertime.

Tony I'm sure your net curtains look beautiful but nice to leave for the birds to feed on the insects in the flower heads through the winter;-))

Lady have a whole family of birds, they do ok from the bird feeders and water.
