This is quite an absurd suggestion that there should be an all female emergency cabinet. Surely this is sexist imagine if a man had suggested an all male cabinet he would be hung out to dry. Is this potentially sexist ??

..but we now live in more enlightened times, when no-one but a fool would suggest that we should have single sex cabinets because that particular sex has a natural tendency to get things done better than the other one does. //
That sums it up accurately.
The notion that people should be chosen because of their gender is offensive to everyone concerned - to women who are being patronised, and to men who are being excluded on sexist grounds.
I am unsure what Ms Lucas thinks this nonsense will achieve, beyond heightening her profile as someone not to be taken at all seriously, while adding fuel to the age-old argument that politics is not something women should worry their pretty little heads about,.

jno - // perhaps she does it to wind up hypersensitive men with no sense of humour, andy? //
There is a place for humour in politics, and I'd love to think Ms. Lucas was on a wind-up - but we both know she is serious, so the excuse that she is being funny isn't going to save her dwindling reputation.

Couldn't believe this when I read it; I mean - I know she's barmy and with an inflated ego, but could she not see how sexist and, possibly (given the lack of choice of candidates) racist her idea is? I've always pushed for equality and understanding that the sexes have different strengths (and weaknesses) that complement each other - leading to a fair balance in the end. Lucas is dangerously barmy.
I'd quite like to see more women in politics -- or more to the point a more equal representation of the general public. I'd quite like to see less tribalism in politics, so that people work together rather than face off against each other all the time. I'd also quite like to see more representation for the Green Party (or at least I did before today :/). What I wouldn't like to see is all of this being tied together into such a monumentally silly suggestion as this one.
I just wish some of our current female -and male - politicians weren’t so damned silly.
