In his case, it stems from being a refugee who was born and brought up in his early years in a DP camp where his family had nothing. His mother hoarded and stocked up on supplies even after they had a secure life in the UK. He can't bear throwing anything away. Hence a piled high double garage. I can't stand minimalism though and our house is full of memories.
woofgang; "Ken, there is zero point keeping paint for more than a year or two." Yes, i know that, but i couldn't possibly say how long a tin has been there. Until i open it, of course. On my last job i threw 3 tins of wood stain together (don't know how long they'd been there but i hadn't stained any wood for almost 18 months), gave it a good stir and the end result was a very nice chestnut colour. Customer was quite impressed. Not only had i saved her some money, but the colour complimented the wood in her 3 piece suite and coffee table.
My wife tells me I’m a terrible squirrel. She is always chucks stuff out, mainly, my stuff.
I have to laugh she says,” you better clear all your clutter out the workshop and garage soon. When you die the boys wont thank you for all that clutter to sort”
Charming lol. Being a woman she doesn’t realise the boys will be sitting on several thousand of good quality hand and power tools I have accumulated over 55 years or so. :-)

I kept every book I bought for quite some years on the grounds that they would be read again....then I realised that I wouldn't live long enough to read any of them because there are new books to read all the time so........I got rid of 30 boxes of books and now only keep the ones I really love whilst passing several carrier bags of books to Oxfam each year.......my local charity shops asked me not to take any more down to them....... Of course there is still the attic to clear............!
