We have a golden retriever who is a very sensitive dog.
When he travels in the back of the car with just my parents he is well behaved. However, if I am in the car,he pants to the point of hyper-ventillation, claws the seat, "digs" up anything in the back of the car and makes it into a pile, and basically destroys the dog guard. It's as if he wants to come and sit in the back seat with me. But he doesn't calm down. He is mad!
He also gets like this if he comes to my house- at Xmas etc. He pants and won't sit down, and generally seems very disturbed. He doesn't whine or bark.

Anyone good with dog psychology??!

they may have some tips for you on why and how to help.
A thought to consider might be your perfume? Some imported ones are like catnip to a cat when smelt my dogs, and they go hyper.

Also, have you been letting him get his own way when he makes a fuss? There is a strange similarity between dogs and children- they know your weaknesses. Puppy Pester Power!
