Do ‘Insurance Brokers’ Still Exist?

In the old days, brokers used to get you the best price, and intercede if you had problems with the insurance company, and so on.

Now, with confused.com and the like? No middle-man, no broker.

They also take a chunk of your premium for themselves.....

allen I guess it is a consequence of the internet age and call centres. At school yonks ago mind you, I did a weeks work experience at an insurance broker which was good, and also made me realise I was not going to have an office based career.

Definitely an improvement unless you have complex insurance needs in which case a broker is a neccessity

To be Honest cannot remember the last time I used a high street insurance broker and 5 do indeed exist in my local City, my post was more directed at normal domestic insurance. There is obviously a need in some commercial or boat insurance are 2 examples I can think of, where specialist knowledge is required.

Confused.com is an insurance broker, as is GoCompare.com, MoneySupermarket.com and Post Office Insurance, etc.

However there are still plenty of High Street brokers around. Yell.com finds 10 of them in my nearest large town (Ipswich):

Seems one can now get various layers of middleman. One goes to a comparison site (1), then one may choose some company there, for example the AA (2), who then passes your details on to the insurance company of their choice.
