Nothing. We don't celebrate Christmas, by choice! We did when children were around. Our son and wife go to the beach with the dog a picnic and a tent. We are all glad when Christmas is over.
Xmas is a sad time this time of year for the Miss because she sadly lost her mum this time only last year.
Probably won't be over celebrating but i'll pop and visit my family here and there.
I've got to an age where i'm not a fan of birthdays, or Christmas.. So it becomes a financial burden, getting everyone presents and stuff Like winter isn't expensive enough with increased gas usage.
True, I do like the solitude (now - age brings a different perspective) but I do miss the 12-person family table, everyone in high spirits, embracing all the daftness. Heigh-ho, not to be, but that "I get to choose the progs" works & I can eat & drink what I want, when I want.
Margo - I've just seen your post - thank you, that made me :-)
As our family has split up or died my wife and youngest son are going to Malta with me for 2 weeks in a all-inclusive hotel. No joy in the UK.
We watched a brilliant Italian Queen tribute show last year at the digs so hope we see them again. Young son was on his own last year in the UK so wont allow that to happen again.
You really would be very welcome, all very relaxed dinner happens when I can get rid of the neighbours, usually around 3.30 ish. Been doing this for about 30 years now I must be mad.
Wouldn't give it house room, but I know a chap in town that's got some "Boileys" - meh, am sure that's just a typo & it's the real deal, let me call him for you... ;-)
You have time to prepare the family for your big announcement Sparklykid, that this year you're going to stay at home for Christmas. Anyone who wants to visit is very welcome to find some accomodation and come round for meals and festivities. You can set off on your mammoth road trip in the spring when the weather and the traffic is much more appropriate. Go on .....
ITS CHRISTMAS NOT XMAS
My sons are trying to talk me into going for a curry! I’m not so sure
It’s only one day a year but if it goes wrong (it can and it has) it can ruin your whole Christmas
We go to my daughters every year. We arrive Christmas Eve and leave Boxing Day. It gets very noisy with 5 children, 3 dogs and two cats. Mind the children are growing up fast. 2x 13, 17, 20 and 22.
We all eat and drink far too much and come home shattered. But that's what families are about.
My daughter, hubby and twins are coming up North for Xmas. They’re renting a cottage in Beadnell over Xmas, and me and my son, his two daughters and new partner are joining us for lunch.
It should be lovely.
The girls are thriving and I can’t wait to see them again.
I remember back in the 60s going out for Xmas lunch and my elder sister and I trying to make sure we were back for the Xmas Special of Top of the Pops. We always made it.
Retro, that Italian Queen Tribute Band were on at The Preluna Hotel in Sleima when I was there in March. I wasn't staying at the Preluna, though. I met up up with someone there.
