This made me incredibly sad...we seem to be living in a world where...over reaction?...seems to be the norm. I'm not sure what to make of this, as I know attitudes are changing. I can remember wolf whistles from construction workers and casual hugs from young men I may not have known well...but I'd never have contemplated pressing charges. What seems most harsh in this case is that he is on the Sexual Offenders list for 5 years.

There's a clue in the words "extreme ...attitudes and behaviour"
Again, without full knowledge of this young man, extreme doesn't seem to apply, and if this is a one-time offense, even less so.
I agree with chell...mediation may have been a far better approach.

Clearly, the CPS were of the view that the case passed all the evidential thresholds and the Magistrates were sure of the chap's guilt.

If I were touched by someone in a street like that, I think my reaction might be less than ladylike. And I would involve the police. There is something a bit sinister about it all which I rather imagine hasnt been aired publicly.

There is a difference in that report, namely that he touched her hip which is a lot different to touching her waist.

Ridiculous.....in my day there was a phrase"touchy feely"person of which I was one and to many it was a marker as to if the girl fancied you.
For example, if you touched her hand and she kept it there,if you slipped you arm behind her back and she squeezed your hand OR if she looked back at you after walking 10 yards.......she fancied you.
If she didn't do any of those things, she was.....a Lesbian.
Easy.

The fact he's been convicted i think informs us that how he touched the girl, was inappropriate.

Why does it matter if he's shy and awkward? If anything the reason he is is because he constantly wants to touch people inappropriately.

Spath, inappropriate does not translate as sexual.

It kind of does though, inappropriate physical advances usually have a sexual motive behind it.
