I am sad to read that one of my favourite writers has passed away.

Even now, forty years on, I still read through his collected Observer television reviews and laugh out loud at his wit and marvel at his incisive ability to say so much with so few words.

When referring to him on conversation, I have said that, as a music journalist, I would be happy to be able to write half as well as he did - a master of his art, he will be sadly missed.

Very funny, very clever man who fought his illness for so long ....will be sadly missed by another Ozzie.

Just watched his interview on BBC2. Funny right to the end - very poignant.

I didn't even know he had died until today. When I heard about Sir Jonathan Miller and Gary Rhodes I wondered who the third one to die would be. I liked Clive James, I thought he was really funny.
