it is indeed amusing that some of our residents cannot see the irony of the situation. The so called "dim" PM has outsmarted their intellectual heavyweight! A buffoon he may appear, a buffoon he most certainly is not. I reckon we'll have at least 10 years of the lefties contorted rage and insults. I say great whilst they concentrate on the production and distribution of bile they wont ever get round the the idea of making themselves electable once more.

how is this news?
The backstop was requested by the UK because the DUP refused to go with the arrangement which Boris Johnson has ended up reverting to.
It’s no mystery
I wouldn’t give you tuppence for the lot of em.
//I have friends who have assets, are fairly middle class to my way of thinking, but still vote Labour, go figure..//

As I’ve said before, emmie, I can’t figure. I cannot imagine why anybody with “assets” would dream of voting Labour – especially Corbynite Labour - unless it was an effort to somehow salve their conscience.

//As soon as people realise that voting Tory and Brexit have not miraculously made them rich.//

I voted for both and I was under no illusion that either would make me rich. Governments don’t make people rich. People do. But governments can certainly make people poor.

//There was a time not so very long ago when folk were questioning whether the right would ever get back in power.//

That must have been at least 40 years ago, OG, There has not been a Left Wing government in the UK since 1979.

Wow, seems the hatred negates the ability to read.

Strong force hatred, as we saw in WW1 and 2.
I suppose if he's getting Brexit done he's saving somebody's wife from suffering that same fate.
Probably less salving consciences, more about paying attention to their moral compass.
One may as well say the same about not being able to figure out why folk contribute to charities.

Tony Blair may have dragged his party to the right, but the official right wing party was in deep trouble many fewer years than 40 ago.
Hollymist //. And Boris may not be dim but is certainly autistic.//
Your proof of this?
They have to decide whether to try to become electable again at some point or stick to their principles and just be a large protest group.

You'd be surprised how many of them would be quite happy with option b. I suppose the appeal is that if you're never elected you can never fail. You can be all shouty and righteously angry to your heart's content and blame everything on someone else forever.
I've never liked Boris Johnson. He trivialises everything when questioned. In answer to the OP, Labour need to ditch Corbyn and ditch him now. Right this minute, along with Momentum. The message couldn't be any clearer. I don't know what they're waiting for. I've no doubt Frank Doberman will tell us!

well I'm impressed 10cs, you are generally a supporter of hard left policies so I'm surprised you are advocating ditching momentum etc.
Labour has appointed Ed Miliband - another abject failure - to spearhead a review of Labour’s general election disaster. Do they actually have even half a brain between them?

The blind leading the blind.
more like the deaf leading the deaf....
Corbyn's language so far doesn't bode particularly well for those hoping for Labour electability.

Talk of 'winning the argument' and continuing to lead the 'resistance' to the Tories, smacks of being resigned to opposition without being particularly bothered about it.
COB is, and always has been, just a protester- he even protested against his own party! I see no reason for him to change this late in life.

Will the left ever achieve elect ability? I doubt it any more than a (proper) far right party would. A centre left could do though.
As Blair showed, the left that can win is not the far left, simply left of the Tories.

To repeat some stats about Blair:

* The only Labour leader to win a General Election in the last 45 years (50 years by the next election)
* The only Labour leader born in the last 100 years to win a General Election

The far left is, for now at least, yesterday's politics. The majority are too comfortable to be attracted by it. If we had another period of national hardship like a world war (or severe and ongoing climate change) where people could fall on hard times through no fault of their own and a lot more people needed support than at present, then harder left politics may prevail again; especially if it was the politics of the right that brought about the hardship.
Ellipsis ---"The majority are too comfortable to be attracted by it. "

Bread and circuses, always was.

"a (proper) far right party " --- meaningless drivel.
