what is the academy to do if the best performers happen to be white and male? It's their awards and they can set the rules but would it be right to skew the results in the name of diversity?

They did this. Black Panther is the fourth most successful movie of all time in the US. (Not aware of an all female one. Yet.)

I said it in my first post on this thread 3T, there's been black directors nominated in the past. Shut happens, none were good enough this year. They need to get over it.
