Australia On Fire, How To Check If A Relative Is Safe?
55 Answers
Hi, we are becoming very concerned about Mr. J2's only cousin (she's about 80). Her Christmas card described fires not far away and now we read that Catalina has been 'engulfed by flames'. We've been emailing for days, but no reply.
How can we find out if she and her little dog are safe, please - anyone? Thanks so much for any help, it's chaos over there.

Her name is not on the list of those missing - and I am assured that it is being updated very, very quickly - so although we still don't know quite what is going on, or where she and little Mitzie are, we can assume that she is probably safe; no matter what has happened to house etc.
You've all been great, thanks so much. If we manage to establish contact, I'll let you know. :)

UPDATE -for those who asked. Cousin got in touch earlier today. She and little Mitzi are safe and the house is only singed. First time they've had electricity etc. for weeks. Turns out that a volunteer, trained, fireman lives in her cul-de-sac and he organised them all. She (and others) were all packed, ready to flee at 1 min. notice, but busy training hoses on vulnerable spots... their enclave has survived. Not pleasant there, but that's something to survive.
Thank you all for your concern. It's rather disturbing that all the leads we put out didn't bring a result - apart from a negative, which is what we were hanging on to, but I suppose that that is what happens in a crisis. Once again, thanks again, but all is well - phew!
