Got my insurance quote down to just £1-27 extra a month for building and contents,
I could not believe the effrontery of what was said ( no offence to the young man Adam I spoke to) I have only ever claimed once and that was for new glasses that I’d just bought two weeks previously, I did an 850ft zipwire in 2018, was a bit disoriented when landing , missed my footing and broke the glasses, the claim was for £285 after paying the excess , I knew and expected and increase and it came in at an extra £5 per month but...... my garage roof leaked last year, I rang my insurance AA then decided I’d have it done myself as the premium would would go even higher (£1500 for fibre glass roof)
Do you know that goes down as a ‘notification’ even though no claim was made?
To me that is shocking !!!!

Yes, I knew that. Applies to all insurance so if you have a minor accident in your car fix it yourself and don't inform the insurance company (unless somebody is injured, obviously). I wouldn't bother claiming for anything under £1000.

It’s just not worth it Barry , how a non claim can be noted is unreal
As an aside, I am with Direct Line for both car and house insurances. Over the last five years my premiums have not increased at all and one year they were both slightly less than the previous years. Of course I do a quick check on the comparison sites but DL is still the cheapest for me. It won't be the cheapest for everyone because every insurance company uses different algorithms.
Bobbi, there justification is that you have been in a claim situation and obviously failed to maintain your garage roof (in their opinion) so are likely to fail to maintain everything else.
My car insurance is due very shortly. I informed the company that I am self isolating for twelve weeks and the car will be in a locked garage during this time. Seeing as the car wouldn't be used for a quarter of the insured year, I thought there might be a slight decrease in the premium, I didn't expect the proposed increase.
Still a risk of theft or fire, vulcan, but I wouldn't expect an increase either. Shop around.

I’d say that’s an ‘assumption’ they make in that case Barry
Insurance companies are a law unto themselves.

They so are TC,
Also be on your guard, they have millions to try and get back from flooding claims, the latter has largely been forgotten with the present problem, but you can be sure they haven't.

That was what immediately sprung to my mind on seeing the increase
You are absolutely right, teacake. I imagine they are saving a packet on traffic accident claims at the moment, though.
