I only learnt about the waggle dance a few years ago, but it has made honey bees more fascinating since. A bit ashamed really as I should know more about nature; I spend a lot of time hiking and could appreciate the countryside even more than I already do.
Could it have been a humming bird moth? I see lots in France, but this year I've seen one in London. They simply hang motionless to take nectar with a long thin tongue(or tube, I suppose) then magically dart to the next flower.
