contraceptive injection

Have been advised to come off it, having been a user for 5 years or so. What I'm really looking for however, is a replacement which will also continue to stop my periods (though I appreciate that no method of contraception guarentee's that).

The alternatives include the implant or coil. Does anyone have any experience of either? I've heard mixed reviews of the coil but nothing about the implant.

my friends have that marena coil (maybe mispelt) they say it's very good with minimum hassle. Ask your doctor for the best options

I have the marener coil also. and have had no problems what so ever.

you still have a period though, so that doesnt stop that, however, i find that my periods are for only 4 to 5 days now whereby they were for 7 to 8 days before. Periods are part of a womans life unfortunately, i think its healthy for a woman to have a period, its what we should be having and i don't agree with methods to try and stop periods.

Just to add my experience ... I've had a Mirena coil for years and years, and it's the best thing that I've ever done! I think I could honestly say it's changed my life.

I haven't had a period (or the lovely associated probs) since I had it fitted and it hasn't caused me any problems at all.

It is uncomfortable to have it fitted though but I feel it's worth it.

There is a new(ish) progestrogen only pill (POP) called Cerazette. It contains the same hormones as the contraceptive injection (assuming you take Depo provera?). It's as effective as the combined pill without the associated health risks (high blood pressure, DVT). It works differently from the older generation POPs as it actually prevents ovulation. If you forget to take it or have sickness/diarrhoea, you only need to take precautions for 48 hours instead of the traditional recommendation of 7 days. I have been taking this pill for the last year and think it's great. No side effects and no periods. Additionally, if you stop taking the pill your fertility returns almost immediately. Statistically, it is more effective that the Mirena coil.

Madgirl2, that sounds good. I have been wanting to come off Dianette for a while now in preparation for a 12 hour flight in November, as it apparently is one of the worst for DVTs. Might give it a try.
