Dk13 is quite right (again!)
Yes it was definitely tum (which is a bit colloquial) and is based on the phrase 'studying one's navel' (implying introverted and probably aimless thinking). I agree, I should have put in a 'say' somewhere towards the end of the clue; the oof! is to admit that it's a terrible pun!
On a different note, if you know anyone who has a colour vision deficiency of any kind, who also does the Pitcherwits, could you please let me have any feedback from them about tones, dark and light, contrast, and any other issues they may have?
