No, not slim news, but rather presenters of news and weather, do you think it is political correctness missing that only allows the slim folk into these roles.
What happened to diversity and inclusiveness?
Where are all the roly polies?

Would 'we' not?

I agree some wouldn't but give me a presenter who knows their stuff and I'm happy.

I agree some wouldn't but give me a presenter who knows their stuff and I'm happy. //

When I use the term 'we' in this context, I am referring to the majority of viewers.

We like a stereotypical individual - let's not stop at overweight people - how many male presenters do you see who are bald or who have moustaches or beards, or florid skin, or pale skin, or who dress in any other way that sober suits? Or how many female presenters with tattoos or facial piercings of flamboyant hair styles, or obviously coloured hair, or bad teeth …

I am just thinking as I type, I could come up with another dozen if I thought about it for a few minutes.

Trust me - we like 'normal', so 'normal' is what we get.
BBC Scotland Political Editor Brian Taylor always looks like he's being garotted by his shirt collar.
Quite insightful and informative for all that though.

Remember Richard Dimbleby ?

I do - but he was a man, and in his day we had all manner of gargoyles either presenting or appearing on intellectual programmes - Malcom Muggeridge, Bernard Levin, Billy Cotton, Patrick Moore, Jimmy Edwards … you could get away with it then, not now.
OP, Depends what you mean by roly-polies. Most presenters aren’t skinny supermodels. They look on the slightly more attractive side of normal.

You might as well ask ‘where are the ugly fashion models?’
Why can’t we get our chance on a catwalk? Not fair! ;)
'you could get away with it then, not now.'

Aye, as evidenced by Dr. Maggie Pocock, Prof. Lintott and Pete Lawrence.

We're tuning in for the sex interest I suppose.

All manner of people have not necessarily been sprayed with evolution's cologne, but their expertise makes them valuable and watchable in their respective fields.

But the Op specifically refers to news and weather presentation, and that means presenters, not experts, and that is where the generic types come in, because that is what the viewing audience likes to look at.
And you specifically referred to "all manner of gargoyles either presenting or appearing on intellectual programmes",
hence the reply.

Off out now to be with normal people.
