Chioldren not alolowed to be children?

Is it just me who thinks it is getting to a stage where children cannot just be kids? Nowadays you can buy underwear for 10 year olds with "sinner" and "I love make-up" on and make-up is more and their toys are heavily made-up dolls like "bratz".It is just not right.

I completely agree - it is just wrong, children should be allowed to be children, not just little adults. There was an article in a mag a while ago about a company starting to sell thongs for 8yr olds - why would any parent allow their child to wear an item of clothing that is so skimpy?

The recent sexualization of children as young as 2 or 3 appears to be getting worse rather than better - I took my son (3) to soft play last week and there was a little girl of about 2 wearing a mini skirt (really mini!!) and a one shoulder crop top - fair enough that this was in a place with loads of other children and parents - but as has already been said, these are the people who complain there is a paedophile on every street, so surely they should be aware of the dangers!!

Well it is about buying clothes I guess.

I totally agree though evn Marks and Spencers do it and they should be really ashamed as they were always the last bastion of sensibility.

Although not as sexual boys clothes are just as bad covered in graffitti, skulls and 'clever' comments. I's like my 8 year old to stay a little boy for a bit longer thanks.

its not just little kids dressing up like wh**es, i went to an alternative shopping mall [ i.e a shopping mall for goths, moshers, punks etc] last week with my friends, and there was a group of like four nine year olds dressed up as gothic or whatever you wanna call it. dont mean to quote that line off 8 simple rules but arent they a little young to have such a negative perspective on life ? when i was there age i was still playing with dolls, they shouldnt be like that when theyre still young, theyre just throwing their childhood away.

I think it's publicisity, I'm only 15, but I think I see it more than anyone, how much it has changed, especially in the past 7 years or so.
When I first started secondary school (now in my last year) I would have never dreamt of swearing, drinking, fighting, having sex. And nowdays Most "children" of 12years old are more "mature" (sexually etc) Than I still am today.
Publicisity is by far the worst, whenever you watch tv, it's shown to them that its alright to have sex at 12years old, and to drink etc, and therefore DO NOT LIVE IN THE REAL WORLD....
You also see the people that children look upto, these skinny, drug taking, unreal people who also do not live in the real world!
Also, once you do reach school leaving age, teens see the actresses/footballers/models on tv, and that's what they want to be! And may end up on benefits, and become a burden to society..
Personally, there should be more empathsis on hard work and sex education... Since our year never got taught anything to do with sex ed.
Think I may have wundered off topic, but that's my opinion.

i totally agree, i'm 15 and i can even see the difference between looking back a few years ago, they were still there but not as 'in your face' as they are now, it makes it worse, I live by Liverpool and Birkenhead, which for those of you who are unaware of the areas, are Chav central, excuse the term. They have 4 and 5 year olds wearing burberry track suits, and just last week I saw a man reading something printed on a small girls top, the mother of it walked over to him and confronted him calling him all sorts, much of which i'm sure you can imagine, i stepped in with a friend and just told her to move on and stop making a scene, i know this is going off topic but this is what happens in some situations, this country has changed, and not for the better.

You may not think it but children do think for themselves...im 13 and i have a younger sister who is 10..she will only wear what she thinks is suitable and the same with her other friends...i think that the older generation just doesn't understand, and never will unless you are our age..you may think that we are all spoilt ***** etc etc...but if we do something its because we want to and not because our friends tell us to..so there really is know point saying that we are ...whatever...because its more than likely that you dont know tha half of it..

I have two grand-daughters ones 9 and the other 11. The 9 yr old couldn't care a less what she wears and often looks quite scruffy. I think this is great as I can take her to the fields without worrying about her clothes. My 11 yr old is the opposite a very pretty blond with cropped tops ears pierced etc. When she stays over she spends ages in the bathroom preparing herself for the day. I usually take this one cinema! They are both lovely and innocent at the mo (i think) Watch this space!! Thank goodness school uniforms are still compulsory we would have probs otherwise.
