How Much
23 Answers
Hi can anyone work out how much seven shillings and sixpence ( 7/6) in 1957, would be worth today., please.
I've been writing about my life for the Grandchildren..7/6 each was the cost of a salad meal we had in Kensington. As teenagers future husband and myself found it was all we could afford on the menu. Kensington back then was rather an expensive area.

It was 2 salad meals..
It was actually 1956..at the time my young man earned pennies under £10 a week, I earned about £6 or £7 depending on my bonus.
Eating out was usually the local chippy or cafe as far as I remembered.
A day trip to london felt like going abroad to me. I hadn't been further than the nearest big town til then.
Lots of happy memories pass my old mind these days. Cheers.
