My plum tree has a bumper crop this year, and there are some beauties on the top branches about ten or twelve feet up. Any suggestions as to how I can get at them?

How about a fishing net firmly tired to a really long stout bamboo cane or one of these 6 feet green steel canes you can buy from a garden centre, although you might need to stand on a ladder as well to get the extra height. A child's fishing net might not be strong enough to take more than a few plums at a time but you can probably get a stronger one from an acquatics shop.
i used to use a long piece of plastic drainpipe with a long narrow vee cut in the end.

Tie a bag on the bottom, push the tube over the fruit and twist, the fruit will roll down the tube into the bag ...

I've picked tons of damsons this way, it's a winner.

The net idea is ok, but you have to keep lowering it to remove the fruit.
Naz - what a brilliant idea. Necessity is certainly the mother of invention.

Just to say Ta for the answers - sorry it's late but I was out all day yesterday.

Tried the pipe thing (found some in a skip at work) and it sort of works so I shall persevere with that.
