Key Safes

Does anyone have a opinion on them , are they safe ? After having a medic shout through my letterbox " If you don't open the door we will have to kick it in " I am thinking about having one fitted but a bit nervous about it .

They 'can't' all be hidden from view.

Gate post? Tree? If not, it may have to be in view... I have said what I know to make them as secure as possible.... but although it may be easy to get one off a wall by force, you would still have to waste time getting it actually open. It would still be easier to force a front door.

Why do you need to hide it .. if you dont be mean and buy the one I showed in the link, when properly fitted,
it is much more secure than your frontdoor ?

I haven't got a front garden, Pixie. I do have back access so I'd put in the back garden but not all house have either.

If I ever had to have one pixie, I would have it put round the back, away from the prying eyes of the front. I'd be happy with that decision.

I think the point alava was tring to make is that yes if someone is going to "go equipped" and is determined then yes nothing will stop them....but a chancer who sees a keysafe that can be disabled with one blow from say a rock or a brick...because if a hammer will do it then a different heavy object will....and knows that its likely that the homeowner is frail...
As an aside, I wonder what house insurers will think of a key being left in a vulnerable key store?

We have one, not for carers or medical purposes but because we have a few close relatives who live quite far away who don’t have a key. They all have the keysafe combination though, as does our next door neighbour.
We just thought it was a good idea, under our particular circumstances, to have one.
It’s not in an obvious place but can be easily accessed by those who know about it.

Woof, it's easy to get them off the wall, but not to get the key out. Easier to force a door than a key safe, if you are willing to. So many people seem to use them, that I don't think they suggest frail or elderly any more. That's more ramps or handles.

Thank you so much for all your answers, so many for and against I don't think I can give a best answer. I live in a terraced house which is quite open at front and no open access to back garden. I do have a very solid wooden door and for me a key safe is a ad saying vulnerable person and I would be nervous having one, only considering it to keep daughter happy and I am not convinced about getting one. One neighbour is disabled and the other one is never in. So for the time being still thinking about it . But thanks so much for your input .

Does your terraced house have a small wall in front of it ?

Yes it does alavahalf, but it's only maybe 2 feet tall the rest is a metal fence.

There is no reason not to fit it to the back of the wall, so that it faces your house. With it's black neoprene cover fitted over it, nobody will know what it is.
