Hi, Can anyone tell me if international money orders from the US are acceptable here? I seem to remember that neither banks nor post offices will accept them here, even if written in pounds sterling. Am I right? Thanks in advance for any help., Janet

There's certainly no facility to cash them at Post Offices - IMOs went out years ago here. Not sure about banks but there will be a hefty fee if they do.

I belive auctionpix will change them though for a modest fee.

dzug Thanks for your help. Janet
For some reason 'Citibank' is ringing a faint bell in the back of my mind. They may just possibly have some arrangement with the Post Office. I'll check on Tuesday when I'm in the PO and post back.

Certainly IMOs issued by the US Post Office cannot be changed at Post Offices here.

dzug Thanks again
Janbuck, the Post Office can cash Citibank IMOs but only if they are in sterling.

Having said that, you might need to go to a larger Post Office to get it done quickly - my local one had to look it up in the manual and said that they had never actually seen one. Any PO should do it though - it's on their standard computer system.

dzug I found out that the money order will be coming from Canada and will be in sterling. The guy reckons he has used them to send money to the UK before with no trouble. So I think I'll tell him it's ok.
Thank you so much for your trouble.
Cheers Janet
The Post Office also cash Canadian Money Orders.

Plus, for interest, British Postal orders that a fair number of Commonwealth countries still issue - mostly the smaller ones though.
