Is it true analog is becoming popular again? I'm talking about reel to reel tape machines.

There'll always be some that prefer the sound of analog. CDs could offer a far better performance than they do, however. The problem is that most CDs have a compressed dynamic range which results in louder music. This is because it's what most perceive to be better quality, although it would actually be better to have a wider dynamic range.
I still get a kick out of hearing the hiss of a studio quality reel to reel cueing up in a CD reissue of music mastered in the 1970's.
Perhaps nothing beats out a first play of a half-speed mastered slow pressed virgin vinyl recording of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" played on a 10 kilogram turntable with a fresh new stylus/cartridge, but the horror of hearing that first click or pop is still engraved deeply in my psyche after all these years. Arrrggh!!!
If you ever get to thinkin' that CD�s are not the greatest thing since sliced bread then listen closely to an MP3 file for about twenty minutes, if you can stand it! I�d rather listen to music off a reel to reel than an MP3 recording any day of the week.
