I have a Victorian terraced house with two downstairs reception rooms. If I wanted to knock through, what sort of cost am I looking at? Just a ballpark-figure... am I looking at a thousand or ten-thousand?? I think it is probably a supporting wall, & it has plug sockets, phone socket & light fittings on it, if that makes a difference.
Around 2500 from memory. About 200 for building control and the same again for structural engineer to give you measurements of RSJ. RSJ cost around 150 (I think) and then hiring supports was only a few quid. Mainly then builders time - should be around 2 days work (that depends on where you are in the country). Skip hire to get rid of the bricks. Then plastering and decorating etc. The more you can do yourself, the chaper it is (eg putting bricks into skips - backbreaking work but cheaper)
