Want to buy a bottle of dark rum for a present up to about £50 for 70cl. Will pay a bit more if necessary.

Suggestions please.

When going to Jamaica, I was told that "Appleton Estate" is one of the rums to look out for. You can pay thousands for a bottle, but there are good 12-year-old ones for under £50

You don't need to spend £50 for a 70cl bottle. Chairman's Reserve (from St Lucia) is very good.

For a classic rich flavour, I'd opt for one of the navy rums. (At 65% ABV, Gunroom will have one hell of a kick to it!). For something a little lighter, the Angostura No. 1 might be worth a try.

Rumbullion is lovely, as is Brewdogs Five Hundred Cuts.
I know it shouldn’t matter, but both of those come in nice bottles too, as it’s a present.

I'm with Shoota here. My friend of more than 50 years, neighbour and also ex colleague in the LFB, was a RN seaman for 12 years before joining the LFB. He always swore by Pussers rum - I tried it but thought I wouldn't like it. Was I wrong ! As the saying goes though - "You pays your money you takes your choice"

Back in the days when I was invincible I used to have a pint of London Pride or Old Peculiar with a Pussers chaser.
It warmed you up and made the world all fuzzy...

Woods Old Navy rum is quite good.Strong-57 per-cent.About £35 a bottle.Excellent stuff.Or so i have been told.

Thanks everyone. I had been looking at rum and reviews for some time and then decided that a recommendation form a drinker would be best.

I was totally confused by good and bad recommendations for the same bottle so thanks.
