Was watching a program on Sky NHK World, about a company that made decorative furniture out of ply board layered with coloured paper. Which reminded me of something I have heard, that the Japanese don’t fell any of their trees, but import all timber. Is that correct.

seems not.
as they are small highly populated islands, it may be that they don't have room to grow all the wood they need....but this looks interesting
