I am so sorry to hear you have suffered such an awful thing. I hope that you are feeling better tonight.
i would just like to follow up the jif lemon thing. when I was about 18/19, I had a nasty experience and was advised by the wpc to carry lemon juice aswell though in a drinks bottle. I guess like a small evian bottle one that you can squirt and that holds quite alot. I know it's expensive, but it is legal and you don't have to worry about it going out of date cos you are not going to eat it. Once you have it, you have it. The other thing they suggested is a big tub of ground black pepper with an easy get off lid. That can temporarily blind someone also. The wpc also told me to always have the keys in my hand. Car keys in particular are just like a small knife and so used in the right way can be very effective.
And of course all the usual stuff, don't walk near the wall, walk near the kurb, don't make eye contact with people. Keep your ears open for people walking behind you. If someone is coming toward you, cross the road, take different routes home every few days so as not to end up with an m.o, wear comfy shoes, even if this means walking to the pub in your glitz with trainers on and your stilettos in a bag. If you need to run, you want to be able to.
I do all this now and teach my daughters to also. My husband also teaches them lots of self defence and I plan for them to go to kickboxing classes as they get older...Apart from anything else, always be ready to fight, the best weapon you have is that generally attackers are not prepared for women who stand and fight...Also, never shout 'HELP', always shout 'FIRE!' this gets much more reaction from passers by who are not then worried about getting involved as a fire is innocent. It also unnerves the attacker as they look for the fire also...
hope you feel better soon mcfluff, and be kind to yourself this weekend. :-)
