I need some advice please. Would you submit meter readings for gas and electric every month or every six months. So you get correct readings instead of estimated usage. As I dont want a smart meter. Thank you.

What does your Gas/Electricity supplier require? Mine wants monthly readings, so thats what they get. Personally if possible I would give monthly readings. However, your readings will only be classed as 'estimated' until an official meter reading is taken.

There methods of estimating are pretty sophisticated as they know how are usage varies month by month depending on the weather, so 3 monthly is more than enough, but if you do it online its easy to submit readings monthly, altho there not going to keep changing your montly direct debit.
Thinking about it, if you pay by DD six monthy or yearly is enough

Yes, there also aware that people are far more likely to submit a lower than true reading than overstate there reading so they treat self readings with a pinch of salt and compare it to there own projection before they consider changing the amount of DD they take
My son has just received a text from ScottishPower asking him to read his meters and submit them on a website ,address supplied,.This is now a norm if you do not have an online account or a smartmeter. It's just a check that your ddr is sufficient to cover your yearly bills. They normally ask every 6 months.

Really -how odd.....I'm with Bulb and have never had anyone come read my meter for three years. I go online once a month and give them the reading. If I want to change my direct debit I just go to the page and change the amount. Done.
Maybe for Bulb. A know someone who has worked in billing for years in electric and gas and they want a reading once a year and checks show that a pretty large number of people submit under recordings, but obvs yours are reliable. Seems odd to leave it 3 years tho.
We're with SOEnergy and I submit readings monthly. When I'd been with them for a year they asked for an extra reading as they were reviewing my monthly payments. I duly sent the reading and received a message soon after saying my payments would not change. As far as I know they have never sent a reader round to check my readings.

Wrong, they are classed as customer readings.

Really. Ofgem saya a supplier read is required every 2 years.
We have a smart meter, easier than phaffing around reading meters, but do check actual readings yearly.

OK, point taken and I stand corrected ☺☺☺

Despite this, they are not official readings and the suppliers will have to verify them at some point, just to weed out people who give 'under readings'. When they get official meter readers around again due to the Covid crisis, I haven't got a clue!
I submit mine online. They ask for you a phot oof the meter if there is any query.
I am with SSE and they ask for readings every 3 months which i do online.
