Well “how close is close to home”.

I got a polite warning today for walking dogs in an area that’s a ten min drive away.

Next time was told it will be a fine.

It’s (honestly!) the first time I’ve walked the dogs in an area that isn’t on my immediate doorstep ... but I believe(d) ten min drive away was still “close”.

At the start of all this lockdown confusion last year, a (voluntary) work colleague drove 2 miles from home to excercise his dogs in what was essentially barron wasteland. He got pulled by plod and told that he shouldnt be away from home and walk his dogs there (In the middle of a busy town).
He is a retired lawyer.
Put them straight regarding 'the law' and carried on walking his dogs.

But surely...laws and regulations aside...even a bit of common sense from plod would have dictated that its safer to walk dogs in barron wasteland than a city. A city that, even in lockdown, had many people shopping etc?

Bednobs, we live in Higher Preston, between Paignton and Torquay. Torquay alone is built on 7 hills (like Rome!). We have lovely views of the sea, but it is 500 metres below us!

How far carole? I trust you don't mean vertically. The highest point in your neck of the woods is Great Hill near Watcombe at about 160m. You have to head up to Dartmoor before you get up to 500m.
