I just had a recorded message from 07495 594247 telling me that my NI number had been compromised and to press 1 to stop ? A strong Welsh accent...female.

Don't press 1. Phone HMRC.
A new scam but they all have the same 'press 1'
Classic scam. Ignore.

I've just blocked it. Apparently it's the latest scam.
How can you compromise an NI number?
Someone could be using another person's NI number for any number of fraudulent reasons.

Even if they were, you'd not be telt by a recorded 'phone message.
I had one telling me that my NI No. had been fraudulently used in the Welsh Borders and so it had been suspended which would have a big impact on my ability to secure credit and would be a negative impact on my Credit Report.

The scammers don't have a very good handle on how Ninos are used in the UK.

Ignore any automated phone message from anywhere telling you to do anything.

Mine mentioned the Welsh borders also. Considering we can't even travel, what use is my NI number across the border? Maybe they think they're used as a form of payment.
Ive had that one. Dont press anything. I emailed to report, someone got back and asked me questions and said they'd look into it. Definitely a scam.
