Came into kitchen this morning. The window and ledge were alive with hundreds of thousand flies. All tiny like pin heads. We cleaned it all down, sprayed fly killer. Went back in half an hour later, loads there again. Had a rethink. There is a pot with parsley growing on the window sill. It's been there for about 6 weeks. I shook it and more fell out. That plant is no more. Cleaned it all up again and sprayed.
Has anyone any idea what these flies were and why suddenly appear?

Years ago I had a similar experience. I bought bird seed in bulk and kept the packet in a cupboard. After a few weeks thousand of tiny black flies had seemingly hatched from the packet. They weren't fruit flies, I don't know what they were but they took some shifting.
