Renewing Driving Licence

I am having terrible trouble, trying to renew my driving licence on the Gov.uk dvla website I get past all the name, address, driving licence number, part of the form, then it says we can't proceed any further, is there anyway of contacting them apart from phone which takes ages to get through, they are an absolute nightmare.

A friend just popped down to the Post Office, had new pic taken and paid c£20.

Seems a bit early to be that out of control though, maybe it's all an act for a fan base, real or imagined.

Thought I would update, I managed (after a lot of turning the air blue) to apply for my driving licence online, used my notebook, rather than mobile phone, or tablet, which is what I was using originally, I managed to get a lot further, in the form, and it did ask for driving licence number, and the numbers on the back of photocard, and also the 2 numbers at the end of the 16 digit numbers. and just about everything else, national insurance number, passport number, but I am just relieved it's now done.
