What nuts do squirrels eat/like? We've just been to our local squirrel park and it didn't occur to me to take some. Going again tomorrow and will pop to grocers beforehand.
Squirrels eat a lot of nuts and will eat any type but their favourite nuts include:
Acorns.
Walnuts.
Pecans.
Hazelnuts.
Almonds.
Beech nuts.
Pine nuts.
Macadamia.
Just drifting slightly off Topic (ged it?), I saw a Red Squirrell a couple of years ago when we stopped for a refresher at The Old Station in Tintern. I was really surprised to see it climb on to a picnic table a few yards away, as I thought they were very shy creatures. I tried to take a photo but it moved away pretty smartly back into the trees. Nice to se though. Not many, these days, can say they've seen one.
10c, red squirrels were in my local parks when I was a child and some of them were surpringly bold when offered nuts. They were an absolute delight, long gone from Birmingham, sadly, because of the invasion of the grey vermin.
I last saw red squirrels a couple of years ago on the Isle of Wight which is still grey free.
A top choice is the humble peanut (shelled or not) from the wild bird section, definitely not the salted ones.
They will probably be raiding the bins for all kinds of goodies.
The alien greys that I get in my garden are digging up the lawn, to get the acorns that they buried last Autumn.
It never ceases to amaze me how they remember where they buried most of them!
