Not The Proper Thing In My Books

I appreciate that some people are addicted to football, but to say to parents that their kids don't have to be in school until 10:30 so they are not tired from watching the football is unbelievable.
Apart from the fact that some parents will have to arrange childcare, what does this teach adults and children about responsibility?
The school day is much shorter than it used to be and children need to catch up with their learning enough as it is already. Where do we stop? It seems to me that football is the only sport to get excited about.
On top of that, the scenes of supporters climbing on top of double decker buses shows how much respect some have for the property of others. I agree they are in the minority, but you don't tend to see it in other sports.
I also wonder how many will turn up for work on Monday morning, hungover, late or both. If I were an employer I would not be pleased.

//I'm sure they'll all be delighted if Italy win// Just for the record, I won't. Nor will I be delighted if England win. Nor do I care if it's a draw and decided on penalties. As an aside, I've often thought that an entire competition such as this could be held in a single day (even with the daft "group" stages) by just deciding each tie on a penalty shoot out. I might...

// Honestly, I couldn't care less about the opinions of the people whinging about England having a successful football team. //
then maybe find a microsecond of compassion for those whose last train home from london - due to footy-watching staff - has been moved from 7-45 to 6-20, and for those who can't get to Euston for 6-20 and will as a result be spending a night on the floor.

No less "mass hysteria" than a royal wedding for news coverage, full page pull-outs and even god forbid an actual extra WHOLE DAY Bank Holiday for Wills/Kate. Total overreaction by some just because they aren't interested in the activity, overall more in the UK are interested in the football than a royal wedding based on viewing figures.

Equally hysterical and equally worrying.

Which is, frankly, an absolute scandal. Whoever authorised that warrants immediate dismissal.

"Equally hysterical and equally worrying", it happens for this and it happens for that - I think we are just dealing with human nature at this point, people like things to focus on and be happy about and will consume all that is put in front of them that relates to it. Maybe one day something will happen you can get excited about NJ ;)
I want England to win, contrary to some comments about me on here. I don't think they will, because I think Italy are a better side. I'm hoping for an England victory but I'm expecting an Italian victory. I refuse to join in with all the hysterical nonsense about "It's Coming Home" and all that gubbins. Whatever anyone says about NJ, he's got it spot on with this thread.
I want them to win just as much as I wanted them to win when I watched them in the World Cup Final in 1966. Like some of you on here, I remember it very clearly. What I don't remember is any of the hysterical incontinence that abounds at the moment. The song of the tournament was Lonnie Donnegan singing World Cup Willie. The best moment of the day was seeing Nobby Stiles skipping around Wembley with the World Cup. That took me back to my schooldays when, on a Monday morning in St Patricks' Junior School, he came into our class with the head teacher, Miss Farrell, to show everyone the cap he'd won playing for England schoolboys the previous Saturday against Scotland.
I hope someone can generate a similar thing and have a tale to tell about one of todays England players holding the trophy. I hope so, but I'm not expecting so.

We have become a nation of wusses. I, along with many thousands stayed up all night watching the moon landing in 1969. The BBC had an 11 hour continuous broadcast throughout Sunday night/ Monday morning. On the Monday we went to work and the children to school as usual, nobody even mentioned wanting time off.
