I think that I have all the answers but I cannot parse the following:

20A I have CREDOS - how does the "taken to heart by the old" parse for the letters C, E and O?

4D I have ENSNARES - how does the "Kilmarnock's initial shot from range at Ibrox" parse to EN?

Many thanks for an explanations.

I haven't seen the puzzle, but -

20a Would the full clue help us? Are you sure the 'C' is involved? - 'EO' is the heart of "thE Old"

4d 'ken' - Scot. (at Ibrox) "range (of sight or knowledge)", with 'K(ilmarnock)'; initial, shot; removed
The puzzle doesn't clue all of the letters of the answers - the uncued letters are highlighted and form parts of the theme.

CE+O are not clued by wordplay - 'taken to heart by thE Old' just gives E+O.
Similarly, taking 'k' from [k]EN (Scots dialect for 'range') only clues EN of EN[snare].
Ta for confirmation, Prof M :-)
sorry, C+R+D+S are not clued...
...apologies for the sloppiness, Lie-in-King.

20A - yes, you're right the C isn't involved - I get it now! (Brilliant, considering you haven't even seen the crossword!)

And 4D - I see it now, but don't think I would have got there - thank you very much.
