The rubric states that with 12 solutions our Inspector’s coding is the wrong way round. His mistakes in these 12 cases need to be reversed before entry in the grid. So far I have found only 2 of the 12. Can anyone point me the right direction please?
I think 'reversed' is (deliberately )deceptive.
Although the top right solution does appear to be reversed it's actually the result of a simple substitution code - 12 answers are to be changed by using one letter of the alphabet as a substitute for another letter (eg from the entry at 6ac you know that I is the code for M and E is the code for T). The long answers are all unchanged.
The puzzle isn't as simple as I thought - in fact, I think it's a very clever idea (there is a reversal, so the setter has not been 'deliberately deceptive' - sorry!).
Luckily, solving it the long and drawn out way I did it gives the same result as doing it the (very!) quick way.
