One of our pubs around here are providing a free main course meal this Sunday to any ex serviceman, all they need to do is to provide their service number when ringing to book.

That's so nice..
I hope more people follow this example.
I think it's a great gesture for veterans who have actually served overseas in areas of conflict/peace-keeping/disaster relief, but I don't really agree with it being extended to all ex-service personnel.

That is a bit spiteful when you consider that they do not get a choice as to where they serve or are deployed
Most do not even have the courage to apply at the recruiting office in the first place !
There can't be many conscripted servicemen who are still alive. Those who have chosen to join the armed forces do not merit any special concessions.
You have to admire the warmth and generosity of the general public and on Armistice Day too
